How Exercise Will Help Your Mental Health

Most of us know that getting out the door and moving is good for our mental health, but during recent times we thought you might all be in need of some more tips on looking after your mind. Here’s how exercise will help your mental health:

1. It will help you set concrete goals

Daily and weekly goals can be really helpful to build structure. If you’d normally be commuting in the morning and evening, use that time to be active. Challenge yourself and your colleagues with Fitlink and stay committed to goals. An easy goal: why not try to get 30 minutes of movement a day for the next 2 weeks. Put it on the Fitlink app and your training partner, colleagues and friends will get to see it and keep you accountable.

2. You get out of your comfort zone

They say that great things are only achieved when you get out of your comfort zone. That’s true! Mixing your exercise up will give your brain variety and spark creativity and fresh thinking. Change the type of sport. Mix it up indoors and outdoors. Run at night when you usually run in the morning. There are so many new things that you can try. Keep an open mind and see it as an opportunity to build your mental strength.

3. It helps mindfulness

To really focus on the present moment, try to take 5 to 10 minutes of your activity to focus on the world around you. Use all your senses. What can you hear, smell and feel during your exercise? Listen to your breathing and just enjoy the moment. This is a great way to be more mindful and relaxed.

With technology like Fitlink, you’ll be more connected than ever. Challenge your colleagues and friends and watch how your fitness journey evolves. See who burns the most calories, takes the most steps, or has the most active minutes, and get rewarded for keeping fit.
